What is Intestinal Ultrasound?

This is an ultrasound examination to assess the bowel.

As with any ultrasound, this technology uses soundwaves to create images. The soundwaves are released from a probe which bounce off different organs at various frequencies and ultimately an image is created using these on a screen.

This procedure is performed in the clinic setting.

Which conditions can be diagnosed/assessed?

There are a wide range of conditions for which intestinal ultrasound can be used. Some of these include:

  • Constipation
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Diverticulitis
  • Bloating and bacterial overgrowth

What is the Recovery Time?

Recovery time is immediate as there are no side effects that can be presented from an intestinal ultrasound.
